WELCOME TO BIG SKY
A TOWN BUILT ON HISTORY
A beautiful place such as Big Sky, Montana, didn't come from the easiest of beginnings. However, I'm sure the collective census will agree that everyone wants to make sure their beloved town stays beautiful. Today, that still rings true and would make good ol' Clovis Deveraux proud to see what it has become since the town created where he served as the first mayor of Big Sky! And no matter where you look, you can see the beauty in the town. From the view of the mountains to every store on Main Street, there's always something to see. If you ask me, someone who was born and raised in Big Sky, I'm always seeing something different even after all these years!
Big Sky was founded in 1893 and has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but mostly the city has done nothing but grow into what it is today: 131 years later. Visitors to Big Sky can enjoy the perks of living in a friendly place with access to a top-notch ski resort for their recreational enjoyment. There are plenty of places to shop and eat as well as an amazing theater! There's truly something to always peak your interest while you visit! Locals have the added bonus of enjoying exceptional schools for their children in Kindergarten through 12th grade! Once they're done with their first 12 years of school, they can move on to the award-winning Big Sky University to further their education while staying close to home!
No matter what it is though, Big Sky has it all that one would need or even possibly want! I know that I don't plan on leaving this beautiful place. As I was born and raised here, I aspire to also make sure my children and their children are also born and raised right here in this beautiful piece of Montana!

I'm very easygoing. I love to be one with nature and the great outdoors. I love working with animals, even watching the fish in the river. Or watching wild deer as they graze in the meadow. I am very family-oriented and loyal to my brothers and extended family. I refuse to turn on them or let them go, as they keep us together. I also am very nature-based, as I would rather prefer to use natural resources around me instead of going to something you could only use once. I am also very honorable, as I go by my family morals. I will make sure the laws of the land and the family are obeyed until the very end.
I believe I got the negative traits of being a perfectionist, no matter how many times it takes me to do something. I will do it over again until it is right. It probably drives others mad when I do it over and over again. The same can be said about homework or assignments in class. It probably drives my friends a little crazy. I also am stubborn and will not take no for an answer. While I am vindictive, I will only give you one chance in order to get it wrong or cross me. And I will never forgive you for that if it does happen. I am also very athletic and enjoy games like soccer and baseball, even going to the occasional professional sport when I get the chance.
The Deveraux family originates from Normandy. Locational name from "Evreux" in Eure, Normandy. The place is so called from having apparently been the capital of the "Eburovices", a Gaulish tribe. This tribal name appears in turn to derive from the river name "Ebura" (now the Eure), which may perhaps be akin to a Celtic word for the yew tree. The Deveraux’s were first introduced into England after the Conquest of 1066. Our family line ended up in Ireland till the late 1800’s and they immigrated to the United States.
My great great grandfather, Clovis Deveraux, was a young boy when his parents immigrated here to America, and they settled in the mountains of Montana. Coming from old money my family never hurt in that department. Our range became one of the biggest ranches in Montana. Handed down generation to generation. Large families spread out across Montana creating more ranches under the Deveraux name, but my generation comes from the eldest son of each generation that inherited the main ancestral home. Which has been added onto over the generations through blood, sweat, and love. Clovis was sixteen when Montana became a state, and four years later after marrying a Shoshone maiden he founded the town of Big Sky, Montana.
That Shoshone maiden was the great granddaughter of Sacagawea, who helped Lewis and Clark in exploring on their expedition. Sacagawea traveled with the expedition thousands of miles from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean, helping to establish cultural contacts with Native American people, and contributing to the expedition's knowledge of natural history in different regions. The National American Woman Suffrage Association of the early 20th century adopted Sacagawea as a symbol of women's worth and independence, erecting several statues and plaques in her memory, and doing much to recount her accomplishments.
Mom’s family came from Manhattan in New York City. Growing up in a penthouse apartment, only child of two absent-minded parents. Her dream was to have a large family. Her parents perished in a plane crash on one of their yearly ski trips to the alps when she was in her last year of high school. Dad had met her when he went to visit some of his cousins that lived in New York. When he came back to Montana after meeting her on one of his trips he wrote her daily, and she returned the letters. With no other family dad brought her home for holidays after that. They had barely graduated when they married.
Big Sky Ranch is the name of our family ranch. The closest town is Big Sky, Montana. It was actually founded by my great great grandfather who gave the ranch and the town the name of Big Sky. Our ranch lies at the base of the Snowcrest Mountain range. There’s nothing like sitting out on the balcony with a hot cup of hot chocolate with the beautiful mountains for a view. A roaring fire in the fire pit to keep you warm. As well as a throw thrown over you to ward off the chill of the freezing temperatures especially in the winter. I don't think our little town was even on the maps till they built the Big Sky Resort in 1973. It's a popular tourist attraction now.
I was born on April 12th, a spring day when the rain started to fall. The ice and snow had melted away and brought new life into the valley. My parents are Tristan and Valentina Deveraux in the mountains on a ranch. We are called the lucky thirteen by my mother. We were secluded out there, but I always had time and fun to play with my older brothers. And someone was always around to play with. I was a happy child growing up, I don’t think I gave my family too many problems.
When I was four years old, I’ll never forget the day that came to the family. I noticed one day my siblings were all silent and no one was saying anything at first. My parents hadn’t come home that day. It wasn’t until my oldest brother, Tristan, was the one who told me about my parents. They weren’t coming home and had gone to heaven. I burst into tears after hearing this and cried. I wouldn’t find out about what happened to them until much later when I was older. When I was four, around the same time, I was given a minibike, I learned how to ride on it, and gradually upgraded to a dirt bike.
Time seemed to move slowly as I grew up. I mourned with my brothers. I felt empty for a while, like we were missing something. Tristan was the one who was able to keep the family going. He quit school and gave up his dreams in order to keep us together. When he went to work in the barns, usually we were nearby. Or the ranch hand wives were looking after us. When I was seven years old, I started to participate in motorcross in grade school.
I remember growing up on the ranch and I would spend many hours with my brothers. We would do sports together, roast marshmallows over the fire. Watch the stars and the sunset. I would stay up on the balcony, until I was too tired and would fall asleep and my brother would have to carry me to bed. I remember spending time at the clubhouse with the other siblings that went there. We did a lot of fun games there and had time to meet up with the other families in the clubhouse.
Since I was old enough to take care of the animals, my brothers showed me the way of the ranch. I loved to work with animals on it including horses. They were very dear animals to me, and I loved each and every one of them. Including their different personalities.
A couple of years passed, when I was able to go to high school. I was excited for it. And couldn’t wait. I had been a little nervous, but I think that is normal when you go to school for the first time. I had a group of friends there. I participated in motorcross in high school still and I got several trophies.
I dated two girls. The first one named Jasmine, in high school and the other girl named Olivia, early in my junior year. But I think it was nothing serious. Or I think they were too intimidated with all my older brothers.
I did two sports in my 7th year, soccer and baseball. I was pretty good at them, and I still do them in high school. I was a shortstop for a while and also found my footing as a position of third base.
I am a junior now, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me. I was going to prospect for the club when I’m 18. And also go to the university. I’m not sure what I want to do when I’m in the university for a subject but I’m sure I’ll figure it out soon enough.

The night was young as Damien felt a chill in the air. He stepped outside feeling winter's grasp still on them but barely. It would not be long before Spring came around and welcomed the new season without question. He was growing weary of the cold winter months, while his werewolf form didn't seem to mind it. He was protected with warm fur that could survive the elements of the cold with no problem. The last bit of snow had melted, while a little bit of frost still clung to the windows. The cold nights were numbered as the warmth would eventually take over.
As Damien stepped out, he had his phone in hand. He had a book in another looking at old astrology charts. The paper was worn with age with a handful of tears from on the sides, as they had scrawled pieces of notes written on it. Because of this, Damien was able to see and recognize some of the planets in the sky as he could point out where he was. Then the moon phases on another page as he flipped through the papers that he had. Damien knew in a couple of weeks, his werewolf form would come out. He still had time. It didn't bother him that much now.
"I see now, so that's where we are. The moon is, half full and will not change for a while." Damien said as that was calming enough. His own home in Quincy had been a small apartment that he had rented out for a couple of months ahead of time. To have his roof over his head was rewarding, and he had enjoyed it. As he began to walk down the streets, there was a nearby park that he could frequent. He smelled the damp air like a storm might come later that night. Along with the few scents of people who had been out that night walking their dogs or heading home. Damien had left Freki back in the apartment for a short amount of time. As he would be back in. And he'd never forget his companion.
