WELCOME TO BIG SKY
A TOWN BUILT ON HISTORY
A beautiful place such as Big Sky, Montana, didn't come from the easiest of beginnings. However, I'm sure the collective census will agree that everyone wants to make sure their beloved town stays beautiful. Today, that still rings true and would make good ol' Clovis Deveraux proud to see what it has become since the town created where he served as the first mayor of Big Sky! And no matter where you look, you can see the beauty in the town. From the view of the mountains to every store on Main Street, there's always something to see. If you ask me, someone who was born and raised in Big Sky, I'm always seeing something different even after all these years!
Big Sky was founded in 1893 and has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but mostly the city has done nothing but grow into what it is today: 131 years later. Visitors to Big Sky can enjoy the perks of living in a friendly place with access to a top-notch ski resort for their recreational enjoyment. There are plenty of places to shop and eat as well as an amazing theater! There's truly something to always peak your interest while you visit! Locals have the added bonus of enjoying exceptional schools for their children in Kindergarten through 12th grade! Once they're done with their first 12 years of school, they can move on to the award-winning Big Sky University to further their education while staying close to home!
No matter what it is though, Big Sky has it all that one would need or even possibly want! I know that I don't plan on leaving this beautiful place. As I was born and raised here, I aspire to also make sure my children and their children are also born and raised right here in this beautiful piece of Montana!
[smear:#4f7899]It started way back in third grade I used to sit beside Emmylou Hayes A pink dress, a matching bow in her ponytail She kissed me on the school bus but told me not to tell Next day I chased her 'round the playground 'Cross the monkey bars to the merry-go-round And Emmylou got caught passing me a note Before the teacher took it I read what she wrote "Do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend? And if you do Well then don't be afraid to take me by the hand If you want to I think this is how love goes Check yes or no" Now we're grown up and she's my wife Still like two kids with stars in our eyes Ain't much changed, I still chase Emmylou Up and down the hall, around the bed in our room Last night I took her out in a white limousine Twenty years together she still gets to me Can't believe it's been that long ago When we got started with just a little note "Do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend? And if you do Well then don't be afraid to take me by the hand If you want to I think this is how love goes Check yes or no" "Do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend? The Garard family descends from the first families of Big Sky. Along with the following families: Deveraux, Falcon, James, Morgan, Moretti, and Thomas families. They've all been friends and allies since the beginning of Big Sky. There also the founding families of the Wild Wolves MC Club that was established back in 1898 after the first production of motorcycles in the US was the Orient-Aster, built by Charles Metz in 1898 at his factory in Waltham, Massachusetts.
I was born into the Garard family. Second of three sons. So that made me the middle child. My older brother is Jacob, and my younger brother is Joseph, but now adays he goes by Viper. Jacob the pride and joy of my parents, and Viper the baby boy they adored. I was just the extra child somedays it seemed, but it I didn't let it bother me. My brothers included me in everything they did. Our parents loved all three of us unconditionally is what my mother always said, and she still does. As I grew older I realized they didn't favor one or the other of us. They treated us equally which was good. I learned a lot from my parents.
Dad was always giving us rides on his Harley, and mom and him would go for long rides enjoying themselves. We all got mini bikes at a young age, and as we grew older graduated to dirt bikes. We tore up way too many yards and after lots of calls to our parents we got a dirt track out at the Deveraux's to ride on. Sure it was a few miles from town, but it was well worth the ride. We weren't the only kids tearing up the yards around town. All our friends were joining in. At least we got our own dirt track out of it.
One of my best friends since we were toddlers was Shelly Davis. She and her sisters were right there along with the rest of us having fun, and getting into trouble. It wasn't until we were going into Junior High that I realized I was falling for my best friend. That song Check Yes or No kept coming to mind so I decided to do what the girl in it done. I wrote a note to Shelly that said...

Well I should have known something would go wrong. I was in a hurry to slip it into her locker when the bell rang. Unfortunately I slipped it into the wrong locker. The girl's name was Emmy Lou that came up to me and took my hand right in front of Shelly who I had been holding my breath waiting for her to take my hand. That was even the name of the girl in the song. I was mortified when she actually said Yes! I stood there gaping at her as Jacob and Candy walked up and most of our friends. Jacob had known what I was going to do since I had confided in him about everything.
People were raising their eyebrows at us, and I didn't know what to do. Finally I jerked my hand back away from her backing up. "That was supposed to go into Shelly's locker!" I blurted out still a bit in shock. Emmy Lou's face dropped and she let out a wail starting to cry. She sucker punched me in the gut, then in the face, telling me I was a horrible person and took off sobbing. I groaned laying there on the cold floor holding my stomach trying to catch my breath with one hand while the other was holding my nose that was gushing blood. Jacob helped me up and got me home. All the while I was hoping mom wasn't home yet to see me like this. Unfortunately she was and started fussing right away over me.
It was the next day that I found out someone had been videotaping in the hallway and got it all on camera. Someone got me a copy and other's kept playing it letting me know that I wasn't going to live this one down. I was avoiding Shelly too feeling totally dumb that I had slipped it in the wrong locker. Talk about humiliating! My dad had just laughed about everything. I did get two sick days at least. Just told mom I had a stomach ache after getting slugged in the stomach, and she let me stay home. When I got back to school I was the last one in class and the first one bolting out if Shelly was in the class so I didn't have to face her. Otherwise I kept my head down so I wouldn't catch eye contact with her. Though I did happen to notice that Emmy Lou had a black eye and a split lip. How that had happened I had no idea. I just knew I hadn't touched her!
Oh and to top it off copies of that note were floating around the school. Girls kept coming up to me and taking my hand. It was mortifying hearing the laughter echoing through the hallways. When I had enough of it I hightailed it out of there running as if my life depended on it. I made sure to avoid any places my dad, or one of his friends might be. I went and hid in a secluded place back in the woods behind the clubhouse. I don't know how long I sat there crying till I felt the presence. Before they came into view I knew it was her. She sat down beside me, and my breath hitched. I quickly wiped away the tears that had escaped. I hated anyone seeing me crying. There was silence for what felt like an eternity. I was more than shocked when she finally took my hand. It was then that I sucked in breath realizing I had been holding it.
Things changed after that moment. Good changes that I was thrilled about. When I got home I ran in right away telling Jacob that she took my hand. Making sure I clarified that it was Shelly. Mom and Dad who had heard me looked at one another. Mom was teary eyed saying her boys were falling one by one. That we weren't old enough for this. Well I was the last to fall since Joseph had been in love with Kayla since preschool. Dad just sat there chuckling saying boys will be boys and that we were a chip off the old block. The teasing at least dropped off after that in school. Maybe it was because Shelly and I were holding hands now and inseparable. Girls were avoiding us, and I was fine with that so I didn't question it.
Years went by and I loved every moment spent with Shelly. She was my first for everything. Probably came too soon at the ages that it did, but I wouldn't change it for anything. Only thing I would change is putting that darn not in the wrong locker back in seventh grade. Shelly and I were the chosen ones for the junior class for the Graduation of the year before us. We greeted people and handed out pamphlet things. I don't remember what we were technically called. At least we had front row seats to Jacob proposing to Candy when she came off the stage from getting her diploma. With his name ahead of hers in the alphabet it was working out perfectly. He'd gotten his diploma and now he was asking her to be his wife after she got hers. When she said yes there were loud cheers from our friends and families in the audience. It had definitely stopped the process of graduation for a few minutes. Definitely epic in my opinion, but then that was Jacob!
They were already parents of Baby Jake the first grandchild of the Garards that my parents adored. Shelly and I graduated a year later. It was shortly after graduation that she told me she was pregnant. I was in shock, but once that wore off I was more than happy. We were nineteen when our eldest son Lucas was born. We had two more in the next two years with barely a year between our second son Reid and our first daughter Misteria. Guess we took a break then since our twins, Reesa and Rayne weren't born till two years later. We got the surprise of our lives when our baby girl Sarah was born five years ago. We hadn't planned on her. We'd given up on trying to have more. She was definitely a blessing to our family though completing it.
My baby brother Joseph, who got nicknamed Viper when we prospected to the sons, and his wife now Kayla also had their first child when they were seniors. So he's the same age as our eldest Lucas. I prospected to the Wild Wolves when I turned eighteen getting fully patched when I turned nineteen. I earned the nickname Steel. I love being a Wild Wolf and riding with my brothers in the club. My eldest prospected and is fully patched now. Reid is a prospect for a few more weeks. Both of them have turned out great in my opinion.
As for me I started Garards Landscaping working my ass off to get it up off the ground. Viper joined me in the business, and Jacob helped us when we would get into binds. We've made a name for ourselves and make really good money. We've even gotten jobs in other states. Though we don't do that very often. When our boys grew up and became teenagers we started putting them to work during the summers. Letting them earn that extra money to buy their Harley's when they turned sixteen. It's a hard job and I have calluses to prove it as does Viper. Nothing feels better than a job done right and good. Getting five stars on most jobs for the good work that we have done. I don't go around bragging about it though, and neither does Viper. Our finished jobs do that for us without us saying anything.
I love going to my kids games and watching them play. There all pretty damn good at everything they do. Now that I will brag on. My kids and wife are my life, and definitely proud of them. As for Rayne I don't know what he does. He's never talked about playing sports since we had him in little kids sports. He was really good as well when he was younger in what he did as well. He seems to be our problem child though getting into fights and getting into trouble at school. We can't figure out what's going on with him. Going to have to put him to work when he turns sixteen, and hopefully that will help him. We treat all of our kids the same trying not to give more attention to one and not the others so I don't know what happened with him. He's come home with bloody noses, split lips and black eyes so we know he's getting into fights. Were definitely going to have to do some more digging into it as he's about to get expelled from school because of it. At least this time it was only a suspension for a week. Plans are to sit him down and have a talk with him. Hopefully nothing else goes wrong in the meantime.

Rayne sat away from the others somewhat. As it seemed like everyone was paired off but for him. Or they were with their friends. They’d been back from Sturgis for only a few days, and his dad, Rowdy, and Cain were throwing a bash at their place to try and take off some of the stress from what the trip had been. The Oklahoma boys and his dad, and Cain were taking turns getting up on the stage and singing. Oh and even Clyde had gotten up and sang. Their kids called out songs for them to sing, and they’d pick one from one of them. Of course his dad hadn’t asked him. It was mainly his baby brothers and once in a while Rafe or Ryder would yell out one.
Sturgis hadn’t really been any fun and he and his brothers had never gotten that tattoo that he designed. With all hell breaking loose everyone was on high alert the next week so his father and brothers had forgotten about it. He’d slept off and on that next week after what had happened to him. At least the stitches had gotten taken out finally so he didn’t have that discomfort. Though it still aches some, and Stephanie had said it probably would for some time as hard as he had been hit. It itched and bothered him, but he refrained from messing with it not wanting to get it infected as it was healing. The bruises were still there, but not as bad as they had been.
His dad’s attention today was either on Rosanna or his baby brothers most of the time. Feeling tired and left out he got up to head inside to his room. Rafe and Ryder’s attention was on their new found girlfriends. His gaze fell on Athena then who was talking to some of the other kids in the Jr Club, and there were a couple of guys that she was laughing and having fun with. He felt a pang in his heart, and weaved in and out of people to head inside. A stray tear ran down his cheek as he got inside, and he quickly brushed it away. He hissed in his breath at the pain when he had forgotten a moment about his wound. With a deep breath he headed up the stairs when he came up on them.
It wasn’t that much of a walk down the hallway to his room. The pounding of the music and the roar of the crowd outside was inside the house too, and it was giving him a headache. So all he wanted to do was lay down and take a nap. Opening his door a sound caught his attention. Looking up he gasped as there were a couple of guys in the room with their girls having fun on his bed as well as Simon’s bed. He gaped in shock for a few moments, before turning bright red not knowing what to do. He jumped when one of them yelled at him to get out. Quickly he ducked out his head pounding even more and realized then that he wasn’t alone upstairs as he saw others in the hallways too.
Looking up and down the hallways he noticed people going in and out of the theater rooms too. Walking down to his dad’s room he thought he might find some relief in there, but his dad must have locked his door. He tried Rowdy’s and Cain’s finding both of them locked. There was nowhere to go he realized, and he headed back down stairs trying not to cry. That wouldn’t look good in front of the sons around. There was a lot that he had no idea who they were. Including the ones that had been in his room having fun. Feeling lost and really left out he turned at the stairs and a drunk son knocked into him knocking him down. He saw stars when his head hit the corner of a baseboard. Laughter was heard, and then they ignored him. Sitting up he held his hand to his head, and when he pulled away there was blood on his head.
He cringed as his head was killing him even more now. Pulling himself up he hears something crash and shatter somewhere. His vision was a little blurry now, and he felt the blood trickling down his forehead. There had to be somewhere that he could go, and he thought of the garage. Making his way down that way he put the code into the door knowing it had been locked up for the party. His dad was taking any chances with his panhead with someone messing with it. Once the door shut behind him the sound was suddenly gone as the garage seemed to be soundproof. His ears were ringing though from the never ending sound from before.
With an unsteady breath he made his way over to his bike not even fighting the tears now. Sitting on it he laid his head down against the cool gas tank and the sobs came unable to stop them. He wasn’t feeling good at all, and when he lifted his head a while later there was a lot of blood on his bike. Had to be from where he had hit his head. A ride might help him feel better was his thoughts, and he got off pushing his bike out a side door, and around some bikes getting on his bike after making sure the garage was locked back up. If it wasn’t his dad, Rowdy, and Cain not to mention the others with bikes in there would kill him.
Starting his bike he rode down the driveway with the guards not even looking twice at him as there were sons and jr club members coming right and left. Tears were still streaming down his cheeks and there was still blood trickling down so his vision was still a bit blurred. Right now he didn’t care, he just had to get away, and hopefully clear his head. His dad and brothers as well as the others would probably never even notice he was gone. They were having too much fun. A while later he realized that the ride wasn’t helping, and he stopped not even knowing where he was. He hadn’t been this way yet. Only the other direction into town. The throbbing in his head was even worse, and all he wanted was his dad right now.
Turning his bike around he tried to wipe the tears away and the blood, but it wasn’t helping much. With a deep breath he headed back. With his vision obscured, he didn’t see the cloud of dust coming down a dirt road not far away. When he turned on the next road thinking he was going in the right direction the car came out of nowhere. Unable to stop he ran right into it, and he was suddenly flying through the air. The impact of hitting the road knocked him out.
