WELCOME TO BIG SKY
A TOWN BUILT ON HISTORY
A beautiful place such as Big Sky, Montana, didn't come from the easiest of beginnings. However, I'm sure the collective census will agree that everyone wants to make sure their beloved town stays beautiful. Today, that still rings true and would make good ol' Clovis Deveraux proud to see what it has become since the town created where he served as the first mayor of Big Sky! And no matter where you look, you can see the beauty in the town. From the view of the mountains to every store on Main Street, there's always something to see. If you ask me, someone who was born and raised in Big Sky, I'm always seeing something different even after all these years!
Big Sky was founded in 1893 and has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but mostly the city has done nothing but grow into what it is today: 131 years later. Visitors to Big Sky can enjoy the perks of living in a friendly place with access to a top-notch ski resort for their recreational enjoyment. There are plenty of places to shop and eat as well as an amazing theater! There's truly something to always peak your interest while you visit! Locals have the added bonus of enjoying exceptional schools for their children in Kindergarten through 12th grade! Once they're done with their first 12 years of school, they can move on to the award-winning Big Sky University to further their education while staying close to home!
No matter what it is though, Big Sky has it all that one would need or even possibly want! I know that I don't plan on leaving this beautiful place. As I was born and raised here, I aspire to also make sure my children and their children are also born and raised right here in this beautiful piece of Montana!

History
I was born in Big Sky Montana. Though not at the hospital, but on the ranch with a midwife. Second born to my parents with my older brother Dillon born before me. He was two years older than me, and we grew up really close. He did become an over protective big brother, but I loved him even more for that. You could say I was his biggest protector too.
I grew up on a large ranch in Big Sky, Montana. The whole ranch was our playground, and we used to go up on the mountain for family picnics. My parents were the best parents. Always there when we needed them, and giving us space when we wanted it. My father was also in the Wild Wolves MC. So I also grew up in the club life. Learning to ride a horse at a young age as well as a motorcycle.
Our best friends were Marigold and Milton Salvatore. Their father, Lee Salvatore, was another member of the Wild Wolves MC, and best friends with my father. The other best friend was Derek Masterson, and he only had one daughter who lived with her mother in Cheyenne, but she spent her summers here with us. Alexis Masterson. The five of us were usually inseparable. As we grew older it was no surprise that my brother and Marigold fell in love. As well as Milt and Alexis. I was the odd one out, but I never felt it as they made sure to include me in all activities. Our fathers also ran the ranch together.
The summer before my Senior year I got to go on a trip abroad through school. Milt who was the same age as I got to go as well. Alexis joined us on that trip. Dillon and Marigold had gone a couple of summers before us, and definitely recommended the trip. We went for three weeks and toured England, France and ended in Ireland. It was in Ireland that I met the man of my dreams. His name was Brennan Taggart. Two years older than me, and he was in a motorcycle club there in Ireland. Tall, Dark, and handsome exactly what my dreams were made of.
Milt and him hit it off right away. Which was unusual since Milt usually stuck with our group of friends, and was wary of others after he'd been kidnapped as a child by a man pretending to be his uncle who was just wanting money. His mother's parents had divorced when they were little, and her mother had taken off taking her son with her. She'd been found dead a few years later, but his uncle never found. There had been others claiming to be him from the reward his grandfather had put out. DNA had never matched on any of them though. When confronted he had kidnapped Milt and tried to ransom him for money. We were all shocked when he had said he had wanted to go on this trip.
I spent as much time as I could the week we were in Ireland with Bren. Falling more in love with him each day. When the day came to leave, I didn't want to leave him. We shared our first kiss, and what I expected to be our last since I was about to board a plane to head back to Big Sky Montana. I cried as I boarded the plane feeling like I was leaving my heart behind. My heart felt like it was being ripped in half the farther the plane flew away leaving my heart scattered. Maybe though it was leaving a trail for him to piece back together.
During my senior year while I was juggling sports, rodeo team, showing horses, and just life I made time to write back and forth to Brennan. We facetimed one another when we could. It was hard though with the time zones, but we managed it a handful of times a week. Text messages were back and forth during our awake times. Even if I got warned at school I kept on texting him. It got me through the year.
He showed up the day of my graduation, walking in about ten minutes before we were to walk in the auditorium. I was more than shocked, and let out a squeal of delight. A lot didn't really believe he was real except for Milt who tried to tell them that he was. Alexis had joined us here for our senior year too, and she thought it was hilarious nobody believed me that I had met a guy while on our trip abroad. My parents thought I was just making him up as I was quite the tomboy, and had never been interested in boys before. Even Dillon didn't think he was real.
I kissed and hugged him, and he greeted Milt and Alexis as well. Since it was almost time to head in he went to find himself a seat. He looked right at home as he found himself a seat among the Wild Wolves MC in attendance for our graduation. All of them wearing their Kuttes as the Wild Wolves were part of the small community here. Sure they were thought of as outlaw bikers, but they did help out with fundraisers, and other things. There were some people though who seemed to forget that the founders of the MC were the founders of Big Sky here.
Brennan stayed through the summer as he was able to stay in the United States for 90 days. He asked my father for my hand in marriage, and of course dad gave him a hard time about it, but he came around. We were married here on the ranch. August 7th was a beautiful day. I rode my horse Miss Kitty up to my father who lifted me down with a smile. Walking me down the aisle with my mother on the Bride's side sniffling as she watched us.
Brennan stood up there waiting on me with my brother Dillon and Milt as his best man and groomsman. Walking ahead of me down the aisle was my maid of honor Marigold, and my bridesmaid Alexis. It was the best day ever. Everything a bride could hope for with her special day. We had the time of our lives, and then were off to our honeymoon. I believe our honeymoon is where we conceived our oldest daughter.
Marigold and my brother had married the year before us, and had their firstborn son a couple of months before the wedding. Dorian was their eldest and Brennan and I were his godparents. He was named after my father. Our firstborn we named Reina Korie Taggart. Marigold was pregnant as well with me and had her second son that they named Huntley Miles. After that we seemed to be pregnant at the same time. Except for my youngest she didn't join me that time. In the end though my brother had seven children, and I had five. Giving our parents twelve grandchildren to spoil.
Alexis and Milt were married a couple of weeks after us. Her pregnancies were off from ours most of the time, but that wasn't going to change that our children would grow up together and be great friends. Same as we had been growing up. They ended up with two sons. Damon and Stefan. They tried and tried to have more children, but gave up after years of being unable to do so.
Brennan and I had gone on to college and become teachers. We taught in Big Sky Montana, and loved our jobs. Helping on the ranch, and raising our children along with my brother and best friends. I taught English and Forensics, and loved seeing the children's eye slight up when they would get something that I was teaching them. I volunteered as a parent too helping out with school activities. I just loved helping with the musicals that my husband put on with the kids.
The years have flown by, and Brennan and I had never been happier. Tragedy struck our families though shortly after the start of the New Year. Some cattle had gotten out and were heading up into the highlands. My parents, my brother and Marigold, Milt and Alexis, Marigold and Milt's parents, Alexis's father, and my two oldest nephews had gone after them along with a few others. It was routine on the ranch for something like this to occur. Avalanches weren't unheard of either around this time of year, but none of us thought that something like that could happen.
They were a fourth of the way up the mountain on snowmobiles as the snow was too deep for them to ride at this time of year. The avalanche struck hard and fast. We heard and saw it from the ranch. My heart sank as I realized it was directly in the path of my loved ones. Rescue parties were formed and we searched for two days. Unfortunately none of them survived. My world was totally turned upside down. I'd lost my best friends, my parents, and my brother and sister in law. My oldest wo nephews too. Reina was supposed to have gone with them too, but she'd gotten sick so hadn't been able to go.
The funerals were a blur to me. Brennan was right there at my side, and there for our children and nieces and nephew. We took Milt and Alexis's boys in as well as our nieces and nephew. It was the worst time of my life during this. It hasn't been the same since, and I find myself breaking down over little things. I see something, and it triggers a memory from childhood. All the children have been struggling with it same as I have. We took in the Earp children as well. Their father was friends with us and lived her working on the ranch, and they perished in that avalanche too.
Going through the stages of grief wasn't my cup of tea, and I'm still really feeling them. It was a couple of months before I was picking up on things wrong with the kids. Realizing I needed to come back to earth and face reality. Be there for my children, nephew, nieces and the other children whose parents died that day that I lost as well. I wasn't alone in this, and that somehow seemed to make reality even harder!

Rayne sat away from the others somewhat. As it seemed like everyone was paired off but for him. Or they were with their friends. They’d been back from Sturgis for only a few days, and his dad, Rowdy, and Cain were throwing a bash at their place to try and take off some of the stress from what the trip had been. The Oklahoma boys and his dad, and Cain were taking turns getting up on the stage and singing. Oh and even Clyde had gotten up and sang. Their kids called out songs for them to sing, and they’d pick one from one of them. Of course his dad hadn’t asked him. It was mainly his baby brothers and once in a while Rafe or Ryder would yell out one.
Sturgis hadn’t really been any fun and he and his brothers had never gotten that tattoo that he designed. With all hell breaking loose everyone was on high alert the next week so his father and brothers had forgotten about it. He’d slept off and on that next week after what had happened to him. At least the stitches had gotten taken out finally so he didn’t have that discomfort. Though it still aches some, and Stephanie had said it probably would for some time as hard as he had been hit. It itched and bothered him, but he refrained from messing with it not wanting to get it infected as it was healing. The bruises were still there, but not as bad as they had been.
His dad’s attention today was either on Rosanna or his baby brothers most of the time. Feeling tired and left out he got up to head inside to his room. Rafe and Ryder’s attention was on their new found girlfriends. His gaze fell on Athena then who was talking to some of the other kids in the Jr Club, and there were a couple of guys that she was laughing and having fun with. He felt a pang in his heart, and weaved in and out of people to head inside. A stray tear ran down his cheek as he got inside, and he quickly brushed it away. He hissed in his breath at the pain when he had forgotten a moment about his wound. With a deep breath he headed up the stairs when he came up on them.
It wasn’t that much of a walk down the hallway to his room. The pounding of the music and the roar of the crowd outside was inside the house too, and it was giving him a headache. So all he wanted to do was lay down and take a nap. Opening his door a sound caught his attention. Looking up he gasped as there were a couple of guys in the room with their girls having fun on his bed as well as Simon’s bed. He gaped in shock for a few moments, before turning bright red not knowing what to do. He jumped when one of them yelled at him to get out. Quickly he ducked out his head pounding even more and realized then that he wasn’t alone upstairs as he saw others in the hallways too.
Looking up and down the hallways he noticed people going in and out of the theater rooms too. Walking down to his dad’s room he thought he might find some relief in there, but his dad must have locked his door. He tried Rowdy’s and Cain’s finding both of them locked. There was nowhere to go he realized, and he headed back down stairs trying not to cry. That wouldn’t look good in front of the sons around. There was a lot that he had no idea who they were. Including the ones that had been in his room having fun. Feeling lost and really left out he turned at the stairs and a drunk son knocked into him knocking him down. He saw stars when his head hit the corner of a baseboard. Laughter was heard, and then they ignored him. Sitting up he held his hand to his head, and when he pulled away there was blood on his head.
He cringed as his head was killing him even more now. Pulling himself up he hears something crash and shatter somewhere. His vision was a little blurry now, and he felt the blood trickling down his forehead. There had to be somewhere that he could go, and he thought of the garage. Making his way down that way he put the code into the door knowing it had been locked up for the party. His dad was taking any chances with his panhead with someone messing with it. Once the door shut behind him the sound was suddenly gone as the garage seemed to be soundproof. His ears were ringing though from the never ending sound from before.
With an unsteady breath he made his way over to his bike not even fighting the tears now. Sitting on it he laid his head down against the cool gas tank and the sobs came unable to stop them. He wasn’t feeling good at all, and when he lifted his head a while later there was a lot of blood on his bike. Had to be from where he had hit his head. A ride might help him feel better was his thoughts, and he got off pushing his bike out a side door, and around some bikes getting on his bike after making sure the garage was locked back up. If it wasn’t his dad, Rowdy, and Cain not to mention the others with bikes in there would kill him.
Starting his bike he rode down the driveway with the guards not even looking twice at him as there were sons and jr club members coming right and left. Tears were still streaming down his cheeks and there was still blood trickling down so his vision was still a bit blurred. Right now he didn’t care, he just had to get away, and hopefully clear his head. His dad and brothers as well as the others would probably never even notice he was gone. They were having too much fun. A while later he realized that the ride wasn’t helping, and he stopped not even knowing where he was. He hadn’t been this way yet. Only the other direction into town. The throbbing in his head was even worse, and all he wanted was his dad right now.
Turning his bike around he tried to wipe the tears away and the blood, but it wasn’t helping much. With a deep breath he headed back. With his vision obscured, he didn’t see the cloud of dust coming down a dirt road not far away. When he turned on the next road thinking he was going in the right direction the car came out of nowhere. Unable to stop he ran right into it, and he was suddenly flying through the air. The impact of hitting the road knocked him out.
